TRAI cuts international termination charge by 43% to Rs 0.30 per minute

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reduced termination charges by 43 per cent from Rs 0.53 per minute to Rs 0.30 per minute for international incoming calls to wireline and wireless connections. The new rate will come into effect from February 1, 2018. Moreover, TRAI stated that it will monitor the trends and patterns of incoming international calls and may review the rate from time to time, but did not give a roadmap. International termination charges (ITC) are payable by an international long-distance operator (ILDO), which carries calls from outside the country, to an access provider in the country in whose network the call terminates. Even the earlier ITC of Rs 0.53 per minute was far lower than the world average of International Settlement Charge (ISC), which is Rs 3-3.50 per minute.
